Young Guns ready to fill the void superstar start Sony Open
Although the Pga Tour would have you believe that the 2010 season has already started, with the SBS Championship winners only Kapalua Maui last week, there are good reasons to consider this week's Sony Open Season greatest revelation.
First and most obviously, Sony is a full-field event (144 players), not a very lucrative trip 28-man observing whales, with a little golf.
More importantly, Sony is about new beginnings in more ways than one. The Tour is experiencing a star empty what with Tiger Woods Phil Mickelson just a rumor, enjoying the last of his winter break. But there are many excellent candidates to fill vacuum, and they will be in action at the Waialae Country Club pleasant this week:
Rickie Fowler • The Oklahoma State product running his first season and has missed the sudden death playoffs at home and regular PGA Tours, is the most important of many exciting young players who will try to have an immediate impact. Fowler has shown ready to win in the majors up a little less than a playoff loss to the Frys.com Open last fall.
"I exceeded expectations," said this week. "And I've exceeded my own."
With Ryan Moore taking week off – not a fan of Waialae – Fowler, who has landed a sponsor exemption in the Waste Management Phoenix Open, is expected to painter of life of the CAP under Ricky Barnes.
