Question about lightweight/racing running shoes/spikes?

Are lightweight/racing running shoes & spikes not a good idea for long-term usage?
What I really wanted to know when asking my question was this: will shoes such as the Nike Free and other popular racing brands negatively affect people who overpronate/have shin splits often? THANK YOU…I need help with this…

Most spikes last ~100 miles depending on what kind they are, obviously sprinting spikes wont last as long as distance spikes because they have less heel and material on them. But overall spikes and racing shoes should be primarily used in races or speedwork.
